One of Companions of The Prophet (ﷺ) had a characteristic that if he was praised, he would say:
اَللَّهُمَّ لَا تُؤَاخِذْنِي بِمَا يَقُولُونَ، وَاغْفِرْ لِي مَا لَا يَعْلَمُونَ، وَاجْعَلْنِي خَيْرًا مِمَّا يَظُّنُّونَ
Pronunciation
Allaahumma laa tu'aakhidhnee bimaa yaqooloon, waghfir lee maa laa ya'lamoon waj'alnee khayram-mimmaa yadhunnoon
Meaning
O Allah, do not call me to account for what they say and forgive me for what they have no knowledge of and make me better than they imagine.

"حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ سَلاَمٍ، قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَمْرٍو، عَنْ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم قَالَ: احْتَجَّتِ النَّارُ وَالْجَنَّةُ، فَقَالَتِ النَّارُ: يَدْخُلُنِي الْمُتَكَبِّرُونَ وَالْمُتَجَبِّرُونَ. وَقَالَتِ الْجَنَّةُ: لاَ يَدْخُلُنِي إِلاَّ الضُّعَفَاءُ الْمَسَاكِينُ. فَقَالَ لِلنَّارِ: أَنْتِ عَذَابِي، أَنْتَقِمُ بِكِ مِمَّنْ شِئْتُ، وَقَالَ لِلْجَنَّةِ: أَنْتِ رَحْمَتِي أَرْحَمُ بِكِ مَنْ شِئْتُ.
