Read the whole surah

There is no compulsion in religion[1]; the right guidance has become distinct from error. Whoever rejects Tāghoot[2][i.e., false gods] and believes in Allah has indeed grasped the most trustworthy handhold that never breaks[3]. And Allah is All-Hearing, All-Knowing.

Notes

[1] This is a great Islamic principle whereby no one is to be coerced to believe, but it is the duty of the believers to make sure that people know what is right and what is wrong. [2] Tāghoot: everything worshiped, followed, or obeyed besides Allah in transgression of the limits He has set, such as devils, idols, stones, the sun and stars, those who are pleased to be worshiped, and rulers who rule by other than what Allah has revealed and are obeyed in that. The angels, prophets, and righteous people are not Tāghoot, even though worshiping them is Shirk (polytheism). [3] The strong handhold is Islam and the testimony that none is worthy of worship except Allah. This verse immediately follows Āyat al-Kursī for good reason: the previous verse contains clear proofs of the Oneness and Greatness of Allah, which negate the divinity of all that is worshiped besides Him (Tāghoot).
